Phone books are dead to me

I got home today to find another phone book sitting outside my front door. I don’t know if it’s the same book as the two that were in our yard a month ago. But all three ended up in the same place, the recycle bin. Why is there no way to opt out of these publications? I have the internet, I don’t need a book anymore. I did a Google search for “stop receiving yellowbook” and the first result was this. It looks like I’m not the only one wondering why there is no opt out (or in) procedure for receiving these books. With all the “green” talk these days why isn’t the Sierra Club or someone else putting pressure on these companies to allow consumers to opt out of a publication that is just a complete waste of paper and manufacturing processes? I used the contact us page on the Yellow Book website but I’m not holding my breath that they will allow me to opt out.

Do you want flies with that?

If you ever find yourself in a hotel bar in south Georgia ordering liquor, you might want to check your drink before you take a sip. I was with a few coworkers this past week where we found ourselves at the hotel bar for a few drinks after dinner. One of my coworkers noticed that his scotch had a fly in it. He got the bar tender to pour him another one just as my other coworker asked me if I saw any flies in his drink. Sure enough, he had a fly in his drink too. Even the new drink my other coworker got had flies in it. Turns out the flies had flown down the bottle and died inside it. Needless to say we left shortly after having a beer (with no flies).

The Hampton Inn was a nice stay

I just got back from a work related business trip and thought I would write a quick something about my recent stay at a Hampton Inn. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed at a Hampton Inn before but from my experience this past week I’ll definitely be on the lookout for them in my future travels. The lobby was very clean with a flat screen TV for viewing and a PC for internet usage if you didn’t have your own computer. The hotel had a very good wifi connection and the room was very clean with updated furniture and perhaps the most comfortable bed I’ve slept in in quite some time. They also had a pretty decent breakfast with the typical continental breakfast items along with fresh fruit and a few hot items. If you couldn’t stay for breakfast they had some sack breakfast bags to grab on your way out the door.

All in all I was very impressed with their hotel and the service I received.

We’re back

Emily and I are back from the honeymoon.  Other than some misplaced luggage and a missed ferry, the honeymoon was great!  We’ve been back at work the past few days but are off to another wedding today.  Once we get back and I take care of some computers problems I’m having at home I’ll post some pictures from the honeymoon and a recap of the events.
