EA games now available on the Mac

The announcement from the 2007 WWDC regarding EA games on the Mac (Intel only) has finally come true. You can now purchase and pre-order select EA games at the Apple online store and at Apple retail stores. Prices for the games range from 29.95 to 49.95. Immediately available is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Need for Speed Carbon, Battlefield 2142, and Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars. You can pre-order Madden NFL 08 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, with both currently shipping in 4-6 weeks according to the Apple online store.

If you have a Macbook, you might be disappointed by this announcement however. Reading the system requirements reveals this little gem at the bottom. “Note: This game does not support the GMA950 integrated graphics card.” I checked each game and they all have that note. So if you’re toting a Macbook, you might be out of luck playing these new EA games on your Mac.

Talk like a pirate with Wordpress

Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day (ITLAPD)! My co-workers and I have been talking like a pirate since early this morning and I’ve got to say it’s pretty fun. Even Yahoo is getting into the day by replacing the usual Flickr logo with the one below. I’m surprised Google didn’t do something similar with their logo.

If you’re reading this website, you’re probably wondering how the posts are all displayed in pirate speak. It’s pretty easy! Just download the Text Filter Suite from Dougal Campbell’s website. Once you upload it to your plugins directory, activate TFS Core and TFS Pirate. You’re done!

Apple to open new Georgia store this weekend

If you’re an Apple fan who lives OTP up I-85, you should plan to get your credit card warmed up this weekend. On Saturday September 22nd, Apple is opening a new store in the Mall of Georgia. The store opens at 10:00AM, and the first 1,000 customers get a free Apple t-shirt. If I wasn’t going camping this weekend I would probably go.

Best Flickr wordpress plugin

Since I joined Flickr a few years ago, I’ve always been looking for a good way to display the photos I’ve uploaded to Flickr on my website. I tried a number of Flickr Wordpress plugins, but I always came back to one. FAlbum, from RandomByte, has long been my favorite Flickr Wordpress plugin. FAlbum is easy to configure, very customizable, and easily allows you to put your photos on a dedicated Wordpress page. The screen shot below shows just a few of the plugin options you can set in the Wordpress admin panel.

The only option that I’ve found to be missing is the ability to hide certain sets from displaying via FAlbum. For example, I would like to hide the “Blog images” set on my website if possible. While that functionality would be nice to have, it’s certainly not a deal breaker. Give FAlbum a try if you are looking to display your Flickr photos on your Wordpress based website.

Above 10,000 feet

While out in the Wind River Range in Wyoming last month, I reached a new height. For the first time on foot, I was above 10,000 feet. Living in GA, you get few chances to go much above 4,000 ft. There’s something magical about 10,000 though. The nice round number, the thin mountain air, and amazing views. So here’s my money shot of just above 10,000 ft.
